FAMILY PREPARES TO LAY DANCING FEATHERS WHITECROW TO REST AS INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
OKLAHOMA COUNTY — Earlier this week, 33-year-old Dancing Feathers Whitecrow was found unconscious inside her cell at the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
According to authorities, it was sometime shortly after 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday when jail and medical staff found Whitecrow unresponsive inside her cell. They immediately began life-saving efforts to revive her, but despite those efforts, officials later confirmed that she had died. As of right now, Whitecrow's cause of death has not been released, and investigators are still working to figure out exactly what happened.
And regardless of why Whitecrow was in jail, she was still a human being. She was someone's daughter, someone's family, and someone who was deeply loved. Her life mattered to the people who knew her.
We don't know exactly what may have happened yet, but we do believe that every person who dies while in custody deserves a complete and transparent investigation. Every family deserves real and honest answers about what happened to their loved one.
As the investigation continues, Whitecrow's family is now preparing to lay her to rest. The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes have released the details for the services honoring Dancing Feathers Whitecrow's life.
Her wake will be held Sunday, July 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the Seiling Emergency Response Center. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the same location, with burial to follow at Cantonment Cemetery.
Our hearts are with Dancing Feathers' family, friends, and everyone mourning her loss. As always, we'll continue following the case and will share updates as soon as officials release more information.
