TULSA: APPARENTLY, "PORTABLE" METH LABS ARE A THING

TULSA — Well, this one is certainly... different.

The Tulsa Police Department has reported that a man was allegedly carrying what police are describing as a "portable" meth lab inside a bag. Yeah, we had to read that several times because we didn't even know that was actually a thing.

According to Tulsa Police, an officer was patrolling on Friday last week near Admiral and Sheridan when he saw a man by the name of Darryl Riggins walking in the middle of the road while texting. The officer pulled up next to Riggins to make sure he was okay, and that's when police say that Riggins threw a bag into the grass.

Ok, captain obvious.

Police then found meth in Riggins's pocket, and when they searched the bag, they reportedly found a "one-pot" portable meth lab.

Y'all, we have so many questions. What the heck is a one-pot portable meth lab?

And since we're naturally curious (and a little nosey), we started digging into this a little more.

According to what we found, these portable meth labs are commonly known on the street as "shake and bake" meth labs. And the whole point of them is that they're supposed to be able to fit inside a backpack or small bag, so that makes sense now knowing he allegedly had his in a bag. So, without going into too much detail, instead of having a Breaking Bad-style lab, it's basically a miniature lab inside one plastic container.

And the scary part about these things is that they're known to be very dangerous, not just because drugs are bad in and of themselves, but because the chemicals inside these portable labs can cause fires or explosions if they're mishandled.

Y'all, that's wild. You learn something new every day… But the moral of the story here is: don't do drugs.

So, as y'all know how this goes, 61-year-old Darryl Riggins was then arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail. We'll let the court system sort the rest of this out.
