CHICKASHA: THIS IS WHY WE VERIFY BEFORE WE VILIFY
CHICKASHA — Those of y'all who have been here for a while already know how we operate. And for those who are new, welcome to the sh*t show and prepare to buckle up.
We happened to be scrolling through Facebook when we came across a post in the Chickasha community Facebook group complaining that there weren't any cooling stations in Chickasha with this heat, and somehow in that post, the blame ended up falling on the mayor. And y'all, we just couldn't keep quiet on this one.
Maybe we're just naive or too sheltered, but we have never even heard of cities having cooling stations. So, to our surprise, finding out that Chickasha actually offers them? That's pretty awesome, y'all. We didn't even know that was a thing. Anyway... back to the story.
A post was made complaining about something along the lines of the Mayor of Chickasha hadn't opened any cooling stations with this dog-gone heat wave and that the Salvation Army was allegedly closed.... Really? That's what has people pissed off nowadays? We have way bigger issues to worry about, y'all.
And sure enough, it didn't take long before the comments started rolling in, and would you look at that... there actually was a cooling station open at the Salvation Army, which was open as well. Mind blown.
Which brings us back to one of our favorite reminders: before you grab the pitchforks and start pointing fingers, maybe take a step back for a few minutes to do a little homework first. A little digging goes a long way and can save you from looking like a silly goose.
And before you decide take a dig at the Mayor of Chickasha, we keep up with the news, duh, and we have seen the good that man has done for that town. So, with that being said, you don't have to agree with everything he does, but at least make sure you've got your facts straight before you start throwing him under the bus.
It's not a paid position, and everything he does is on a volunteer basis. So maybe, before blaming him for everything under the sun, y'all should take a minute to make sure the finger is being pointed in the right direction. Just saying...
Anyway, in true mayor fashion, he jumped into the comments, apologized for the confusion, and said he'd be looking into how things could be handled better going forward. That right there speaks volumes. Much respect.
And because we believe in giving credit where credit is due, we'd like to tip our hats to the Mayor of Chickasha. Keep up the good work because it most def does not go unnoticied.
