HONORING SHARON HERRERA BY SUPPORTING HER FAMILY. BAKE SALE FUNDRAISER TO HELP SHARON'S FAMILY THIS SATURDAY JULY 18TH
MUSTANG — When tragedy strikes one of our communities, Oklahoma always has a way of coming together because the pain isn't carried by just one person or one family. It weighs on us all. That's just the kind of people we are here in Oklahoma.
Since we first began reporting, we've been blessed to witness it with our very own eyes. We have seen complete strangers show up for families they have never even met. Whether it's saying a prayer, dropping off a meal, donating a few dollars, or just a loving reminder to someone that they are not alone, our communities always seem to come together when we need each other most.
And y'all, right now, our community is hurting. A family is living through a nightmare that no family should ever have to face. This is one of those moments where we show up for them. We do what Oklahomans do best: take care of one another.
On Monday, July 13, we lost a young mother in a horrific road rage crash that she had no part in. Twenty-five-year-old Sharon Herrera was on her way to work when two drivers who were reportedly involved in a road rage incident collided. The impact caused one of the vehicles to cross into oncoming traffic, where it struck Sharon’s vehicle head-on. Sharon's son was strapped into his car seat in the back seat of her vehicle and, according to the authorities, survived without any reported injuries. Praise God, y’all.
But Sharon tragically lost her life that day. In a matter of seconds, her family's world was turned upside down. Her son is now without his loving mother, and her husband is left mourning the loss of his beautiful wife.
So, in Sharon's honor, we're asking everyone to help surround her family and friends with love and support. This is one of those moments when our community comes together, and right now, they need us.
This coming Saturday, July 18th, Sharon's co-workers will be hosting a bake sale fundraiser to help raise money for Sharon's family's funeral expenses. The fundraiser will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until everything is sold out at Jimmy's Egg, located at 121 E. State Highway 152 in Mustang.
They are also accepting donations for the bake sale, including any homemade baked goods or other handmade items. Cash donations will be accepted during the event, and a QR code will be available for anyone who would like to donate through Cash App. There is also a donation box inside Jimmy's Egg for anyone who would rather donate in person.
And for those who aren't able to attend but would still like to help, we'll be sharing her co-worker, Dana's, Cash App handle and we will also tag Dana in the comments for anyone who has questions or would like to donate items, please contact her directly via DM.
Her coworkers have so graciously organized this fundraiser on behalf of Sharon's family, and all donations sent to Cash App will be given directly to them.
So that being said, if you're able to stop by, pick up a few treats, make a donation, or even say a prayer for Sharon's family, we know it would mean the world to them.
And we know times are tough for a lot of folks right now, and not everyone is in a position to give financially. But if you can spare a prayer, share this post, or simply help spread the word, that help would be greatly appreciated.
Because every prayer, every share, every donation, and every act of kindness makes a big difference. So y’all, let's surround Sharon's family with the love and support that makes our state such a special place to call home.
Y’all, let's show them what Oklahoma is all about.
