EDMOND — Hello? The future of education is calling, and Oklahoma just picked up the phone. We are genuinely curious about how y’all are going to feel about this one.
In just a few weeks, a private school where the learning is essentially managed by AI is set to open its doors in Edmond, with plans of another location opening up in Tulsa. The mission behind it is to help raise human intelligence by using artificial intelligence. So, in other words, AI will be doing the instruction.
Now, adults will still be present, but they won't be called "teachers." Instead, they'll be known as guides, whose role is to provide emotional support, motivation, and mentorship while AI handles much of the instruction. Based on what's been reported, the curriculum will still be aligned with the same academic standards taught in traditional schools. The tuition, however, is a bit higher than many other private schools locally, reportedly starting at approximately $40,000 a year... Only time will tell whether families believe if that investment is worth it.
Reportedly, students at Alpha Oklahoma City will spend two hours each morning on academics, using individualized lesson plans customized to meet them where they are in their learning. Of the two hours, 25 mins will be spent on each of the core subjects, such as math, reading, science, and language. After their academics are completed in that time period, they will then be able to spend the rest of the day doing group projects and workshops that will help teach them life skills.
So, for those of you interested in becoming a guide, the good news is you don't have to have a teaching certification. The starting salary is reportedly $100,000. So... it looks like we might be closing up shop and switching careers, y'all. Just kidding.
And this isn't brand new, y'all. Apparently, this private school is actually based out of Texas and already has multiple locations operating across six states.
