KAYAKERS STUMBLE UPON HUMAN REMAINS ALONG NORTH CANADIAN RIVER

MCLOUD, OKLA. (TUC) — What started as a normal day of kayaking on the North Canadian River took a tragic turn on Saturday.

Two sisters, who were simply just trying to enjoy the sunny weather and a day on the water kayaking, never imagined what they were about to find. According to what they told KFOR, they were about two hours into their kayaking trip when they noticed a strong odor coming from the riverbank. As they got closer, they also spotted what appeared to be skeletal remains.

They initially believed the skeletal remains they saw belonged to an animal or a large fish that had washed ashore. However, as they got a better look, they realized they were looking at what appeared to be a human skull, along with a few ribs and pieces of clothing.

Shaken by what they had found, the sisters immediately called authorities, who responded to the scene and launched an investigation.

When deputies with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office arrived, they reported that the remains were located in a heavily wooded area that was difficult to reach. After making their way through the terrain and crossing the river to reach the location, they confirmed the remains were human.

Unfortunately, because the remains were so badly decomposed, authorities were not able to identify the individual at the scene. The remains have since been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where officials will work to identify the person and determine the cause and manner of death.

We can only imagine what those two sisters must be feeling after stumbling upon such a horrific scene. We will be keeping the sisters, as well as the family of the individual, in our prayers. We hope that this discovery helps brings some answers and a sense of closure to whoever is waiting for their loved one to come home.
