THE FUTURE IS LANDING IN OKLAHOMA... LITERALLY: GROUND BROKEN FOR NEW AIR TAXI RESEARCH FACILITY
OKLAHOMA CITY — Well... it looks like we might be one step closer to flying cars. Cue the "I believe I can fly" energy.
Yesterday, the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City broke ground on a brand-new facility that's expected to be completed by the summer of 2027.
The new building will serve several purposes, including supporting the FAA Academy and facility management, but, in our opinion, the coolest part of the entire project is the research into air taxis.
And we don't know about y'all, but when we hear "flying cars," we picture something like The Fifth Element, with cars zipping between skyscrapers. But we're definitely not there yet... One can dream, though.
Keep in mind this research is still in the very early stages. Once the facility is open, it will focus on researching air taxis that could one day transport passengers to and from airports. So no, this doesn't mean everyone will be buying their own flying car anytime soon.
But still, we think it's pretty awesome that some of the research helping shape the future of air travel is happening right here in Oklahoma.
Oh, and one last thing... Please don't be on Temu tonight searching for a flying car so you can skip the traffic on the I-40. We're gonna have to wait a little longer for that one.
