OCPD CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING HOMICIDE #35 OF 2026
OKLAHOMA CITY — According to what has been reported by the Oklahoma City Police Department today, they are currently investigating homicide #35 of 2026.
If we break that down by month, that's an average of approximately 5 homicides per month so far this year. And sadly, that number is subject to change as the year continues and additional cases are investigated.
So for comparison, OCPD reported 74 homicides total in 2025. Broken down monthly, that's about 6.17 homicides per month, which is slightly higher than where 2026 currently sits.
And believe it or not, despite what it may have felt like, 2025 was actually an improvement over 2024, with OCPD reporting about a 5% decrease in homicides.
So, in other news, it appears fewer people are being killed year over year, and that's something we'll gladly take as a win.
We can only hope that one day the number reaches zero. Sadly, we're not sure we'll ever see that day in our lifetime, but we'd be more than happy to be proven wrong.
Until then, we'll keep reporting the numbers and hoping they continue to go down.
