OKC REMINDS RESIDENTS TO FOLLOW ODD-EVEN WATERING SCHEDULE AMID DROUGHT CONDITIONS
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (TUC) — Ok, y’all. Most of you are probably aware by now, if it isn’t obvious already, that we are kind of in a drought season with these scalding temperatures.
And for real though, it’s almost like Mother Nature is teasing us at this point. Because for several mornings now, we’ve seen the dark clouds roll in, gotten the “thunderstorm” warnings or those “lightning detected near you” notifications, and thought maybe, just maybe, we were finally about to get some rain. Then, it's almost like Mother Nature says, “Just kidding,” and the rain disappears before it even gets a chance to make an appearance.
So, with that being said, the City of Oklahoma City is putting out a friendly reminder to residents that the permanent odd-even watering schedule needs to be followed. And yes, we said permanent. Don't come for us though, we don't make the rules.
Oklahoma City is currently in Stage 1 of its water conservation program. And this isn’t too bad, y’all, because there are five stages total, so at least we’re only sitting at a one right now.
So, what does that mean for you who live in the city? We're glad you asked.
If your address ends in an odd number, you can use your outdoor sprinkler system on odd-numbered days only. So, the 13th, 15th, 17th, and so on.
If your address ends in an even number, the same applies. You can use your outdoor sprinkler system on even-numbered days only. So, the 12th, 14th, 16th, and so on.
And before anyone gets confused, this only applies to sprinkler systems. It does not apply to hand-held hoses or hand-watering your flowers or gardens. So, you can still go outside and try to keep your poor flowers alive in this Oklahoma heat.
Long story short, just keep those sprinklers on their assigned days, and maybe eventually Mother Nature will stop teasing us and actually give us some rain.
Because at this point, we would really appreciate it. We'll take even a sprinkle.
