OKLAHOMA CITY WILDFIRE DESTROYS HOMES, CAUSE CONSIDERED SUSPICIOUS

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (TUC) — On Thursday at around 4:00 in the afternoon, the Oklahoma City Fire Department responded to reports of a large grass fire near Reno Ave., Northwest 10th St. and County Line Rd.

By the time fire crews arrived, the grass fire had already spread quickly and grown into a much larger wildfire, eventually reaching the nearby Holiday Outt RV Park. As the fire continued moving through the area, crews immediately began evacuating residents from the RV park.

And the fire became so large that multiple agencies had to be called in to help. At one point, there were reportedly a total of 34 fire units working to battle the wildfire.

At least four structures ended up catching fire, with three of those reported to be trailer homes and another being a shed. The fire also damaged part of the railroad, and a Union Pacific Railroad bridge in the area had to be closed.

Thankfully, crews were eventually able to get the fire extinguished. Now, the Oklahoma City Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit is working to figure out exactly what started it. According to the department, the cause is still under investigation, but the fire is currently considered suspicious.

The good news in all of this is that no injuries were reported, which is pretty incredible when you consider just how large and fast-moving this fire became. But unfortunately, there are also families waking up without a home today and trying to figure out where they go from here.

Belongings and material things can eventually be replaced, but that doesn’t make losing your home and everything you had inside of it any easier.

Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by this fire, especially the families who lost so much. We hope they feel just how much their community is behind them in the days ahead. And if we learn of any ways that y’all can help these families get back on their feet, we’ll be sure to share that information.

The investigation into what started this fire is still ongoing, and we’ll keep y’all posted as more information becomes available.
