OKLAHOMA EXECUTES CARLOS CUESTA-RODRIGUEZ MORE THAN TWO DECADES AFTER MURDER OF OLIMPIA FISHER

MCALESTER, OKLA. (TUC) — In 2003, Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez was convicted of first-degree murder after reportedly stalking, abusing and ultimately killing his ex-girlfriend.

Olimpia Fisher was Cuesta-Rodriguez’s common-law wife and a loving mother to two daughters. According to USA Today, Fisher had plans to leave Cuesta-Rodriguez after he became extremely controlling, obsessive and violent.

According to official court documents, Cuesta-Rodriguez would stalk Fisher when she wasn’t at home and even went as far as placing a mirror in their bedroom that allowed him to “watch her” while she was in another room of the house. But sadly, Fisher never got the chance to leave. Before she could, Cuesta-Rodriguez took her life.

On May 31st, 2003, Fisher and her daughter had packed their bags and were getting ready to leave their home. Cuesta-Rodriguez was asleep at the time after reportedly drinking a bottle of tequila, so they believed it would be safe to stay in the home throughout the night. Around 4:30 that morning, Cuesta-Rodriguez woke up and began arguing with Fisher, accusing her of cheating on him. During the argument, he shot Fisher in the right eye.

Fisher was still alive and fighting for her life as police tried to force their way inside the home. It was during that time that Cuesta-Rodriguez then shot her again, this time in her left eye, killing her in front of her 18-year-old pregnant daughter.

But today is a day that has been a long time coming. More than two decades later, Cuesta-Rodriguez was officially executed by lethal injection at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. He was pronounced dead at 10:13 a.m.

We know that time can never erase the pain her daughters have had to live with after losing their mother in such a horrific way, nor can today ever give them back the years they should have had with her. But we hope that, in some way, today brings them a little bit of peace and allows them to finally close a chapter that has remained open for more than two decades.

Today, after 23 years, justice for Olimpia Fisher has finally been carried out.
