JALAPEÑO WARNING: SALMONELLA OUTBREAK SPREADS TO 27 STATES

OKLAHOMA (TUC) — Y'all, if jalapeños are your thing, you might want to keep reading.

According to federal health officials, fresh jalapeño peppers grown in Sinaloa, Mexico, are being linked to a Salmonella outbreak that's now spread across multiple states, including Oklahoma. The FDA says the peppers were distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors, and the investigation is still ongoing.

According to what's been reported, at least 345 people across 27 states have gotten sick from the Salmonella strain linked to these jalapeños. The largest number of illnesses has been reported in Minnesota and Colorado. Thankfully, no deaths have been reported, although 36 people have been hospitalized.

Health officials say most of the people who became sick reported eating at Mexican-style restaurants such as Chipotle and Qdoba. As a result, several restaurant chains have already removed the affected jalapeños from their menus.

So, that being said, if you've recently eaten fresh jalapeños or dined at a Mexican-style restaurant and start experiencing symptoms like diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, nausea, or vomiting, it's probably a good idea to contact your healthcare provider.
