TRAGEDY AT LAKE PONCA: MAN FOUND AFTER BEING SWEPT AWAY BY CURRENT
LAKE PONCA — We received preliminary reports of a tragic incident at Lake Ponca earlier today involving a man who was swept away by a strong current.
According to the information we’ve been given, a man was out on an inflatable raft with his wife, enjoying a day at the lake with friends, when he reportedly removed his life jacket and jumped into the water to cool down. We were told that the current was too strong, and he was quickly swept away.
The incident reportedly happened around 2:30-ish this afternoon.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol along with several other first responders then arrived on scene and spent several hours searching for him before recovering him from the water around 8:40 p.m.
Sadly, he did not survive. We have been told he may have suffered an apparent heart attack, but we have not yet seen that officially confirmed by the authorities.
Our prayers are with his wife, family, and all his loved ones during this heartbreaking time. What should have been a fun day at the lake turned into a tragedy no one could have ever imagined.
We can’t even begin to imagine the heartbreak they’re experiencing, and we’re keeping them all in our prayers.
