FAMILY DEMANDS ANSWERS AND TRANSPARENCY OUTSIDE OKLAHOMA STATE PENITENTIARY

MCALESTER, OKLA. (TUC) — A family is demanding answers after they say their loved one, who is currently incarcerated at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, has been assaulted multiple times in recent months and hasn’t received the medical care they believe he needs.

The inmate, identified as Ramon, has reportedly told his family that after everything that has happened, he is now living in fear for his life. And as you can imagine, his family is scared too.

On Sunday, Ramon’s family, along with several members of the community, gathered outside the Oklahoma State Penitentiary for a peaceful protest. They weren’t there looking for trouble. They were there because they want answers, transparency, and most importantly, they want to know their loved one is safe.

But their concerns don’t stop with Ramon. During the protest, Ramon’s stepfather also spoke about his nephew, who he says died while incarcerated around seven or eight months ago. According to him, their family is still waiting for answers about what happened and feels like their concerns surrounding his death have gone unanswered.

So, for this family, Sunday’s protest wasn’t just about one alleged assault or even one inmate. They told FOX23 that they believe what they’re dealing with could be part of a much bigger issue.

And at the end of the day, regardless of how someone ended up behind those walls, being incarcerated doesn’t suddenly make them any less human than the rest of us.

They are still somebody’s son. Somebody’s daughter. Somebody’s brother, sister, father, mother, husband or wife. There are still people on the outside who love them, worry about them and wait for the day they get to come back home.

We truly hope their concerns are heard, their questions are answered, and that this family gets the peace of mind they’ve been asking for. And not just Ramon’s family, but every family out there who is still waiting for answers about what happened to someone they love while they were behind those walls.

Because no family should be left wondering. No family should have to beg just to be heard. And no matter where someone is or what brought them there, their life still matters. Because accountability shouldn’t stop at the prison gates, and neither should humanity.

We will be following this closely and as always, we will keep you all updated as more information is released.
